Why Housing Justice Matters

At Kentucky Equal Justice Center we believe safe, stable housing is a human right. Yet across the Commonwealth, too many Kentuckians face eviction, unsafe living conditions, or homelessness—often through no fault of their own.

We work to level the playing field for tenants and low-income homeowners by advocating for fair housing policies, supporting community organizing, and providing legal assistance to those at risk of losing their homes. Our goal is simple but powerful: keep people housed and strengthen the communities they call home.

Our Legal and Policy Work

Our housing justice team tackles the issue of housing instability from all angles:

  • Legal Representation: We support tenants facing eviction, unsafe living conditions, or retaliation for asserting their rights.

  • Outreach and Education: We help tenants understand their rights and options through workshops, know-your-rights materials, and direct community engagement.

  • Policy Advocacy: We push for systemic change—championing laws and policies that protect tenants and promote affordable housing across Kentucky.

We also collaborate with local partners and organizers to build a unified movement for housing justice.

How You Can Help

Housing justice is a community effort—and we need you with us. Here’s how you can support the work:

  • Donate to KEJC to fund our legal support and outreach

  • Share your story or invite us to speak in your community

  • Advocate for fair housing policy at the state and local level

Together, we can make sure everyone in Kentucky has a safe place to call home.
