Farewell to a Dedicated Leader: Rich Seckel Retires from Kentucky Equal Justice Center

It is with a mix of gratitude and sadness that we announce the retirement of Rich Seckel, Executive Director of Kentucky Equal Justice Center. Rich’s departure marks the end of an era for our organization, as he has been an integral part of KEJC since 1979, dedicating more than four decades to advocating for justice and equality.

Rich’s journey with KEJC has been marked by an unwavering commitment to its mission and a list of significant achievements. He has tirelessly served as an advocate on poverty law issues before state agencies and the Kentucky General Assembly, ensuring that the voices of the marginalized and underrepresented are heard and respected. His advocacy has had a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals and families across Kentucky.

In addition to his work at KEJC, Rich has made notable contributions to other organizations dedicated to health and justice. He is a founding board member of Kentucky Voices for Health and served as chair of the initial Community Advisory Committee of the Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky. These roles underscore his dedication to improving the well-being of Kentuckians through collaborative efforts and community engagement.

Rich’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College and Masters of Social Work from West Virginia University. Before pursuing his masters, he volunteered as a boycott organizer for the United Farm Workers, AFL-CIO, demonstrating his early commitment to social justice and workers’ rights.

Rich’s leadership and service have not gone unnoticed. In November 2016, he was honored with the Distinguished Nonprofit Leadership Award by the Kentucky Nonprofit Network, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the nonprofit sector and the broader community.

As Rich steps into retirement, we extend our heartfelt thanks for his years of dedicated service. His legacy of compassion, advocacy, and leadership will continue to inspire us as we carry forward with the mission of KEJC. While we will miss his presence, we wish him all the best in this new chapter of his life.

Thank you, Rich, for everything you have done for KEJC and the people of Kentucky. Your impact will be felt for generations to come.
