Jackson Cooper Promoted to Senior General Counsel, Director of Legal Programs at KEJC

The Kentucky Equal Justice Center is thrilled to announce the promotion of Jackson Cooper to the role of Senior General Counsel, Director of Legal Programs. In this new position, Jackson will lead our legal team in advancing our mission to promote equal justice for all Kentuckians, with a focus on the most vulnerable members of our community.

Jackson’s journey to this new role is as inspiring as it is unique. A Louisville native, Jackson initially pursued a career in technology, earning a degree in Computer Information Systems from the University of Louisville. He excelled in the IT field for a decade, but his passion for justice and advocacy led him to shift course. He attended DePaul University College of Law, where he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctor and a certificate in Information Technology Law.

His legal career began in the Jefferson County Attorney’s office, where he spent ten years as a prosecutor. Here, Jackson honed his skills as a trial attorney and solidified his commitment to serving the public good. However, his true calling emerged when he transitioned to legal aid, working tirelessly to protect the rights of low-income individuals and marginalized communities across Kentucky.

As a Housing Justice Attorney at KEJC, Jackson has been a fierce advocate for those struggling to secure safe, affordable housing. His work has not only provided direct legal assistance to those in need, but has also contributed to broader systemic change, ensuring that the voices of the underrepresented are heard in legislative and administrative settings.

In his new role, Jackson will take on even greater responsibility, overseeing strategic litigation efforts aimed at protecting the interests of low-income and underrepresented populations. Additionally, Jackson will lead KEJC’s legal and policy advocacy in various areas of poverty law including housing, health, workers’ rights, immigration, and social impact law. His leadership will be crucial in shaping innovative legal practices that align with our mission to achieve equal justice for all residents of the Commonwealth.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jackson has a love of the outdoors, a passion that began in his youth as he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. Today, he enjoys camping and hiking with his wife and their three dogs, finding solace and inspiration in nature.

As KEJC looks to its future, we are confident that Jackson’s expertise, dedication, and vision will propel KEJC’s legal programs to new heights. His promotion marks a significant milestone for our organization, and we are excited to see the positive impact he will continue to make in the lives of Kentuckians.

Please join us in congratulating Jackson Cooper on his well-deserved promotion – we look forward to the many achievements to come under his guidance and leadership!
